The price
The Sparkasse zu Lübeck Founder’s Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, will be awarded for the eighth time on November 29, 2023 for convincing and viable business concepts, carefully researched markets and strong personalities or teams.
The award recognizes outstanding and exemplary achievements in the development of innovative and promising business concepts and the establishment of new companies.
A special prize for extraordinary creative achievements can also be awarded, i.e. the prize money can also be divided among several prize winners.

The application
Only the following are eligible to participate
- Students
- Employees
- Graduates who have developed an innovative business concept or founded a company
of the University of Lübeck, the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences and the UKSH Campus Lübeck.
Start-ups that were founded no more than three years ago can also take part in the competition.
Applicants should still be active in the immediate vicinity of the Hanse Innovation Campus Lübeck.
The application documents
Business concept
A convincing and viable business concept in the form of a short and concise, but nevertheless meaningful business plan (maximum 8 pages plus attachments) in the following structure (see Appendix 2) is a prerequisite for the application:
- Summary
- Description of the founding idea of the object of the company
- Presentation of the founders or the company management
- Market overview, marketing and sales concept
- Corporate and financial planning
- Attachments
The application documents can be supplemented to an appropriate extent with meaningful information material such as photos, brochures etc. as well as existing technical documents and/or tables.
The GründerCube team will be happy to support and advise you in drawing up your business concept.
Short video
In addition to the written business concept, a short video must be submitted in which the business concept is pitched in under one minute.
The video is available on the website www.gruendercube.de online.
Votes can be cast for the individual videos in the period from September 20 to October 20, 2023 11:59 pm.
The video with the most votes will receive bonus points, which will be added to the jury score.
Content of the video:
- Who are we and what do we want to do?
(Short introduction of the team and description of the idea) - Why do we want to do it?
(What problem/question do we want to solve?) - How do we want to do it?
(How does our idea work?) - What is the unique selling point?
(Innovative application, innovative transfer, etc.)
Technical specifications:
The following technical specifications must be observed for the video:
- Duration of the video: max.
01:00 minute - Recording in landscape format; recording with a smartphone is absolutely sufficient
- 500 MB
- Submission deadline: September 15, 11:59 pm.

Please complete the application documents and attach them to the business concept.
Privacy policy
Each applicant must sign the data protection declaration (digital signature) and enclose it with the application.
Jury and selection procedure
The jury members are appointed by the GründerCube team in coordination with the Sparkasse zu Lübeck, the University of Lübeck and the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences and perform their duties on a voluntary basis.
The jury consists of experienced and established entrepreneurs, successful start-up entrepreneurs, start-up consultants, experts in R&D funding and professors from the University of Lübeck and Lübeck University of Applied Sciences.
The jury members maintain the strictest confidentiality in their work.
The meetings and deliberations of the jury are not public.
The jury’s decision is based on a simple majority of its members.
A jury – experts from business and science – will review the applications and make the selection.
The following criteria will be taken into account:
– Presentation, coherence of the concept
– Degree of innovation
– Economic viability
– Management/founders
– Growth opportunities
The best applicants will be invited to present their project to the jury in a short presentation, date to follow.
The winner of the Sparkasse zu Lübeck 2023 Founder’s Prize will then be determined based on the written business concept, the pitch and the short video submitted.
The award ceremony will take place on November 29, 2023 as part of a festive event in the Audimax on the Hanse Innovation Campus Lübeck.
